Pep Guardiola’s side ran away with the title last season, winning by 19 points and finishing a staggering 25 ahead of fourth-place Liverpool.
But the £43.7m Brazilian midfielder says his new team are ready to knock City off their perch at the top.
“We have a very good team and we will be able to fight for the title,” he said.
“I have just started with my team-mates and I understand we have excellent players.
We have an excellent manager and a very good group.
“City are the champions and produced excellent football last season, but we will do our best to get the title from them and make everyone here happy.”
Fabinho’s tongue was firmly in cheek when he said he will be texting former Monaco team-mate Kylian Mbappe, to persuade him to follow him to Anfield.
But he had a more serious warning for his old pals Bernando Silva and Benjamin Mendy who won the title with City last season.
They will come face-to-face in the league on October 6.
And Fabinho said: “I have been able to get in touch with them and we have spoken quite often. Mainly Bernardo Silva.
“I told him although we are friends, when we play each other maybe I will be a bit harsh on him.
