Alexis Sanchez took part in his first training session of Manchester United’s tour of the United States after finally resolving his visa situation and jetting into Los Angeles. The Chilean had to wait behind in Manchester as United’s legal team worked on securing a waiver, training by himself, and finally travelled to the US on Friday evening. Just a few hours after touching down, Sanchez then took part in his first training session on the other side of the Atlantic on Saturday – and looked thrilled to be back with his teammates.
Sanchez – sporting a fresh new trim – shared a few jokes with United’s players and staff as he greeted them all, and then took part in fitness and ball work.
Jose Mourinho has already stressed the need to get Sanchez up to speed as quickly as possible and intends to play him in Sunday’s second pre-season friendly against San Jose Earthquakes regardless of any jetlag
The Chilean accompanied the rest of the side as they took a short flight to San Jose on Saturday evening. Sanchez was not the only familiar face to arrive in LA over the weekend, with Nemanja Matic the first of United’s World Cup stars to return for pre-season training.
The Serb was knocked out in the group stage in Russia and, after a brief holiday, joined the rest of the team in LA before boarding the plane to San Jose. Matic is not expected to play any part against San Jose Earthquakes, but might see minutes against AC Milan on Thursday. Marcos Rojo and David de Gea, who exited the World Cup in the last 16, will be next to link up with the squad for pre-season training
