The flying right-back impressed on loan at Inter Milan last season, featuring 28 times in all competitions
JUVENTUS have announced the signing of right-back Joao Cancelo from Valencia for £35million.
The 24-year-old has penned a five-year deal until 2023 with the Old lady, after impressing the Serie A champions while on loan at Inter Milan last season.
Cancelo created 33 opportunities last campaign – the most of any defender in the Italian top-flight.
While he also completed a league high of 38 successful dribbles to help the Nerazzurri secure Champions League football.
Cancelo will slot into Juve’s starting XI straight away, after Switzerland veteran Stephan Lichtsteiner left to join Arsenal on a free transfer.
Manchester City were reportedly keen on Cancelo’s signature, as Pep Guardiola looked for a back-up to Kyle Walker.
While newly-promoted Premier League side Wolves were understood to be vying to nab the Portuguese international.
Despite netting three goals in seven caps for the Euro 2016 winners, Cancelo was failed to be included in Fernando Santos’ World Cup squad for Russia.
After suffering a knee ligament injury on international duty in August, he still managed to chip in with one goal and four assists in 28 games in all competitions for Inter.
After starting off his career with Benfica, Cancelo moved to the Mestalla on an initial loan deal in 2014, with the move made permanent a year later for £13m.
He then swapped Spain for Italy last summer, with Geoffrey Kondogbia going on loan in the other direction.
