FULHAM are to press ahead with the permanent signing of Newcastle’s Aleksandar Mitrovic, according to reports.
The Serbian was said to be thinking about his future only after the World Cup.
Now Mladen Krstajic’s side are out and the Cottagers are looking to tie him down, say the Times.
Mitrovic scored 12 goals in 20 loan appearances for the London club in the second half of last season.
He was crucial in their promotion push to the Premier League and seemed to enjoy a good relationship with fellow countryman Slavisa Jokanovic.
Mitrovic is rated at £20million by Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle.
The striker has two seasons left on a five-year deal he signed with the St James’ Park side in 2015.
Benitez, who could also have to sell Matt Ritchie, has been told he must finance new signings through sales.
The Spaniard is said to be content for Mitrovic to leave.
The Magpies are said to have been pursuing West Brom’s Salomon Rondon but are set to end their interest.
Meanwhile, Real Sociedad are confident they can snap up Mikel Merino after only one season with Newcastle.
Sociedad boss Asier Garitano said: “It could be a good signing for us.”
