Manchester United star, Juan Mata is being monitored by Italian giants, Inter Milan who are looking at him as a cheaper alternative to teammate, Henrikh Mkhitaryan. The 29-year-old Spanish footballer has impressed this season but is nearing the end of his contract, with no visible sign of new talks. The player has endured a topsy-turvy relationship with manager, Jose Mourinho and has never established himself as a regular in the thoughts of his manager.
The player who signed from Chelsea back in 2014, has been a good player in his time at Old Trafford but has not hit the heights of performances he showed at Chelsea. Inter Milan are looking to prise him away from Old Trafford as he enters the final six months of his contract, and he can be available for a cut price deal this month.
Mata would add creativity to Inter’s squad under Luciano Spaletti, who have struggled in recent matches. Mata may be willing to leave Manchester in a bid to gatecrash Spain’s squad for the World Cup to be held in Russia later this year. He has returned to the team in recent weeks following the shocking loss of form of Mkhitaryan who started the season well.
It is believed that Mourinho wants to free up space in his midfield in a bid to sign Arsenal star, Mesut Ozil this transfer window. The 29 year-old German international is in the final six months of his contract too at Arsenal, and the Gunners could be pressed into selling him as they wouldn’t want to lose him on a free transfer in the summer. Mata is an attacking midfielder known for his creativity, passing and vision but has been somewhat stifled by Mourinho’s insistence on playing pragmatic football at times.
He joined United for £37m from Chelsea after a tumultuous relationship with Jose at Chelsea and has since won The Europa League, League Cup and FA Cup in that time.
