Manchester United predicted lineup against FC Basel

Manchester United square against FC Basel in the UEFA Champions league – a competition they last played in the 2013/2014 season. The Red Devils recorded a draw against Stoke City in the EPL and they will be looking to return to winning ways against their Swiss visitors.

Manchester United and Basel have met four times in the group stage of the competition, with both teams claiming a win each while two games ended in draw.  We got our only win away in 2002 while the draws came at Old Trafford.

Despite United being favourites to win this game, you may have to hedge your bets, as Basel have a healthy record against United, with both sides recording a win apiece and two draws in the four encounters they have had in the Champions League.

However, here’s the strongest lineup Mourinho could utilise against Basel:

Jose Mourinho is expected to retain his 4-2-3-1 formation which looks to have worked for him so far

Mourinho could decide to go for Sergio Romero as his shot-stopper just as he did in Europe last season.

Victor Lindelof and Chris Smalling are expected to start in central defence with the duo of Eric Baily and Phil Jones still serving their respective bans .Antonio Valencia is expected to start from the right side of the defence while Matteo Darmian could get the nod on the left.

Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic are expected to start in the midfield as usual while Juan Mata could start on the right wing with Anthony Martial operating from the left.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan is expected to retain his attacking midfield spot

Romelu Lukaku will most probably lead the line again as he has no doubt delivered for the team. He will be hoping to take his form in the league to Europe.

For Basel, they are expected to go for a 4-5-1 formation and the Red Devils will be ready to match them man to man. Former Norwich City striker, Ricky Van Wolfswinkel is the main threat for United as he has scored seven goals in as many games this season.
