The 33-year-old who has been heavily linked with a £10m return back to boyhood club Boca Juniors has been reportedly granted a return to his native Argentina for treatment on a calf injury.

Former Manchester United forward Carlos Tevez has however agreed in writing to return to Chinese Super League side Shanghai Shenhua before the end of the month.

Tevez is currently the highest paid footballer in the world with his weekly wages reported to be in region of £615,000-a-week.

He has played just 11 times in the league for Shenhua, scoring twice, with his poor performances blamed on the injury that first occurred in April.
