Iconic former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has aired his opinion on his former side’s chances for next season after finishing sixth in the 2016/17 campaign.
However going into this summer’s pre-season games, Jose Mourinho’s side will face Real Madrid twice as well as Manchester City and Barcelona in the International Champions Cup.
And Ferguson believes the Red Devils performance in pre-season schedule will serve as the ultimate test of their Premier League title credentials for the 2017/18 season.
“The great thing about United is you’ve got to accept the challenge of beating the best,” the Scot told United’s official website.
“The expectation is always there and the matches we’ll face in the ICC are all big ones.
“It’s very good for the younger players to come into this type of competition in terms of preparing to be a Manchester United player.
“The more intense the challenge they can get, the better prepared they will be when facing Manchester City in an important league match or Real Madrid or Barcelona in Europe.”
United are touring the USA as they take part in the International Champions Cup before a gruelling Super Cup final against Real at the Philip II Arena in Macedonia on August 8th.
