The prolific 28-year-old striker netted 30 Bundesliga goals last season, leaving him just one short of Borussia Dortmund’s Gabonese forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Bayern Munich don’t boast the best midfield in the world but only Cristiano Ronaldo has scored more Champions League goals than Robert Lewandowski over the past two seasons, with the Pole netting 17 in 21 appearances, compared to the Real Madrid icon’s 28 in 25.
Lewandowski’s incredible form has caught the attention of Chelsea boss Antonio Conte who is set to lose frontman Diego Costa this summer as the Blues look to build a formidable squad for next season’s Premier League title defence.
Chelsea have now reportedly opened transfer talks with Bayern as they plot an ambitious move for the Allianz Arena ace.
A move remains difficult, however. The lack of release clause in his contract means Bayern have all leverage. But it remains to be seen if Chelsea will be ready to cough out £100m for Lewandowski as they also have an alternative in Everton hitman Romelu Lukaku.
