Manchester United closing in on 24-goal talisman

Manchester United know they must strengthen their attack this summer if they are to challenge for the Premier League title next season as they need a back-up for teenage striker Marcus Rashford.

United have relied heavily on veteran Swede forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic for the majority of this season and the 35-year-old hasn’t disappointed after netting 29 goals in all competitions for the Red Devils before picking up an injury which has ruled him out for the remainder of the campaign.

However, The Sun is reporting today that United have entered the fray to sign Everton striker Romelu Lukaku this summer transfer window with the 23-year-old Belgian valued at a mammoth £80m.

It is understood Lukaku is nursing the ambition of playing in the Champions League next season and especially now that Everton are pushing hard to break into the top six under Ronald Koeman.

Lukaku was previously linked with a return to Chelsea but he is already having reservations about the move according to sources close to him and it is understood he has his concerns over how he would fit in at Stamford Bridge with regards to Antonio Conte’s 3-4-3 pattern of play.

It remains to be seen if the Old Trafford hierarchy will favour a move for Lukaku who has enjoyed a prolific campaign, scoring 24 goals and providing six assists in 35 Premier League games for the Toffees.
