Atletico Madrid hitman Antoine Griezmann has shocked everyone with this cryptic statement regarding his future as the 26-year-old France international is continually linked with English Premier League giants Manchester United.
Griezmann said in a recent interview with Cadena Ser’s El Larguero that he would quit Atletico for only one team in the world and it’s not even a football team. It’s a Basketball team in the United States which perhaps is an indirect way of the striker saying he might shock everyone soon and move to the MLS.
Griezmann joined Atletico from La Liga rivals Real Sociedad in 2014 for an undisclosed fee and has stated he would only leave Vicente Calderón to play for NBA team New York Knicks, the Basketball team the striker supports.
“I would only leave Atleti to play with Derrick Rose,” Griezmann said.
“I am very comfortable here and now have to meet my representative with Miguel Angel Gil (the Atletico chief executive) and see what happens.
“I am happy. If I am happy in my personal life I will be happy in my profession. I love [Diego] Simeone and I love my mates.
“I’m still as happy as the first day I introduced myself. I wish I could continue to enjoy my private and sports life.
“I want titles, it’s what I want and what I lack. I give everything for it.”
Despite scoring 26 goals this season in all competitions for Atleti, Griezmann and Co will unfortunately finish the season trophy-less with the Spanish capital outfit set to finish third in La Liga behind Real Madrid and Barcelona.
They also reached the semi-finals of the Champions League where they were beaten by rivals Real, and the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey, where they lost to Barcelona.
That hasn’t stopped Griezmann from constantly denying he will he leaving Atletico at the end of the season.
