Benfica are already preparing for a humongous windfall with the Portuguese outfit expected to receive nothing less than £5m from Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich in the next couple of weeks if Renato Sanches can make one more appearance for the Bavarians.
Sanches joined Bayern last summer in a deal worth £30m but a number of lucrative clauses could eventually see the final price rocket to £67m.
However, the Portugal midfielder is about to become the club’s most expensive ever player, but only if he makes one more appearance for the Allianz Arena outfit before the end of the season.
According to German newspaper Bild, one clause will see Benfica earn £4m if he makes 25 appearances this season. After coming off the bench against Wolfsburg, he now stands on 24.
With Bayern’s current transfer record standing at £33m for Javi Martinez, it seems only a matter of time before Sanches takes top spot but that moment could come as soon as next weekend when Bayern Munich take on Darmstadt 98.
Sanches, who may not have played as much as he expected to when making the move to the German club, has made only five starts in the Bundesliga but has been used as a substitute a further 11 times.
In addition to that, he has also played twice in the DFB-Pokal and made six Champions League appearances.
It means just one more game would be enough to see him overtake Martinez, who joined from Athletic Bilbao in 2012 for £33m.
