Arsenal have confirmed the signing of highly rated Dutch forward ahead of the 2016/17 season as the Gunners look to bolster their attack as they will be challenging for honours next season in the Womens’ category of English football.
The north London club have added internationally-recognised Dutch forward Vivianne Miedema to their female team ranks.
The 20-year-old joins after three seasons with Bayern Munich and was part of the 2014/15 team who won the Bundesliga for the first time since 1976.
In the 2015/16 season, she helped them to secure the Bundesliga title for a second time by scoring 14 goals.
Miedema was also the youngest-ever debutant in the Dutch Eredivisie Vrouwen league at the age of just 15, where she played for Heerenveen for three seasons.
In her final season before joining Bayern, Vivianne won the league’s top scorer award after accumulating an impressive 39 goals.
Miedema’s first international cap came in 2013 and she was crowned the 2014 UEFA Women’s Under-19 Championships’ ‘Golden Player’. She was also the leading scorer in the competition, a title again earned in the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualification stage.
Gunners female team boss Pedro Martinez Losa told Arsenal’s official website: “Vivianne is a huge signing for this club and is seen as one of the best young strikers in the world.
“Attracting this level of talent to the club reflects our ambition and we are very excited to have Vivianne on board with us from the start of the 2017/18 season.”
