Borussia Dortmund were preparing to host Ligue 1 giants Monaco at the Westfalenstadion on Tuesday night in the Champions League quarter-finals first-leg when the unexpected happened.

Photos have emerged of the Dortmund team bus after it was hit by an explosion.

The Dortmund bus was en route to the Westfalenstadion, but soon after the players left the hotel, an explosion struck the bus, with Marc Bartra subsequently being hospitalised.

Looking at the damage done to the bus, it is a miracle that nobody else was hurt. The black-tinted windows at the back of the bus are completely smashed.

The German club confirmed that Bartra was injured in the blast and is being treated in hospital.

The game will now be played tomorrow evening.

It remains to be seen whether Bartra will be in good enough condition to be part of the squad for the game, but it will undoubtedly be a bitter blow for Dortmund if the Spanish international is sidelined.

Meanwhile, it appears as though the situation at the Westfalenstadion is calm and there doesn’t appear to be any further danger to the players or the home and away supporters from France.
