Arsenal have released an official statement confirming that 25-year-old midfielder who is currently on loan at Premier League rivals will be out for the remainder of 2016/17 season.

England international Jack Wilshere, who is on a season-long loan at Bournemouth, sustained the injury during the Cherries’ Premier League match at Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

X-rays taken after the game were clear, but further scans showed a hairline crack in the fibula and it is understood Wilshere has returned to the Emirates Stadium for treatment.

The Gunners academy product will undergo further specialist assessments in the forthcoming days to identify more specifics regarding the injury and also to structure a rehabilitation programme.

Wilshere, who has featured 29 times for Arsenal and Bournemouth combined this term, is however expected to be fit for the start of next campaign.
