Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho was pictured at the World Cup qualifying match between Croatia and Ukraine on Friday night in Zagreb and the motive behind the Portuguese’s trip has been revealed by La Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Italian Sport publication claims Mourinho was at the Stadium to watch United’s summer target, Inter Milan midfielder Marcelo Brozovic in action for Croatia with Ivan Perisic suspended.
It is understood Mourinho will be splashing up to €165m on three marquee signings this summer. The biggest of them would be Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann, with United having to meet the €100m release clause in his contract with the La Liga giants.
As per the report, it’s claimed that a deal is close and so perhaps the 25-year-old French striker is on his way to Old Trafford at the end of the season.
Elsewhere, Gazzetta also note that Inter ace Ivan Perisic could be on the move in a €35m deal as United have joined Chelsea and Liverpool in expressing an interest.
The Croatian international has been an important part of the Nerazzurri’s resurgence under Stefano Pioli this season, but he could be on his way to England if the reports holds any iota of verity.
Meanwhile, Croatia edged the tie at the Stadion Maksimir 1-0 courtesy of Nikola Kalinic’s goal in the 38th minute.
