The 25-year-old French striker has been heavily linked with Manchester United in the past few weeks and the return of Paul Pogba to Old Trafford last summer was expected to act as a catalyst in Antoine Griezmann’s move to the club.
However, Spanish newspaper AS has claimed this morning that Griezmann’s current employers Atletico Madrid have convinced the prolific forward to remain at the Vicente Calderón.
Griezmann has firmly established himself as one of the best players in the world in recent seasons.
Last term, he bagged 32 goals in all competitions for Atletico, with 22 of them coming in La Liga.
He followed up a stellar season with Diego Simeone’s side by finishing as top scorer and being named best player at the European Championships on home soil.
His stunning performances for both Atletico and France saw him finish third in the Ballon D’Or rankings last year behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
The report will come as a big blow to United who are in desperate need of a box-to-box striker as they can’t rely completely on 26-goal hero Zlatan Ibrahimovic who is already 35.
