Jose Mourinho claims his Manchester United team selection is now predictable more than ever after the 53-year-old deliberately gave out his starting line-up for Tuesday’s EFL Cup semi-final first leg tie against Hull City at Old Trafford.
The Portuguese tactician was back at United’s AoN training complex on Sunday morning to start preparation for the visit of the Tigers who recently sacked former Red Devils assistant coach Mike Phelan.
Mourinho told reporters that ‘fresh players’ such as Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Ander Herrera, Paul Pogba etc who didn’t feature in the 4-0 mauling of Championship side Reading on Saturday will start against Hull.
“I play with the players that didn’t play [on Saturday],” Mourinho said.
“I played with fresh players and I don’t want to say anything about first choice or second choice but we played with fresh players, the players who didn’t play against West Ham.
“In the next match against Hull City we are going to play again with fresh players. So it’s easy to know our team – Zlatan [Ibrahimovic], [Paul] Pogba, [Ander] Herrera, [Antonio] Valencia. The guys that didn’t play today.”
United will make it ninth consecutive win in all competitions if they beat Hull City.
