Manchester City have reportedly told Barcelona they are prepared to pay a record £100m to sign Lionel Messi.
Negotiations between City and Barcelona executives reportedly took place at the end of last month, but no bid was made for the Catalans’ super star who is yet to agree a contract extension with Barcelona.
Sun Sport understands talks between both clubs were held to determine if a world record transfer is possible and it is believed Pep Guardiola’s side are prepared to offer him £800,00-a-week.
Barcelona have so far refused to name a price or even confirm they will sell Messi. However, their willingness to listen to City has encouraged City owners and the conversation was described as ‘positive’ by a source.
City boss Pep Guardiola who is under increasing pressure over the club’s poor form following their 4-0 loss against Everton, though Pep has been backed by the Etihad hierarchy who are of the opinion that the personal relationship Guardiola forged with Messi at the Nou Camp can make the deal happen.
Messi’s who has been at Barcelona since he was 13 has seen the club hand huge new deals to his strike partners Luis Suarez and Neymar while Real Madrid have also tied his rival Cristiano Ronaldo to a bumper new deal recently.
