Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has been told he can spend up to £40million this month- but he has already started planning for a summer spending spree by targeting Germany star Julian Brandt.
Klopp has been given the green light by his Anfield bosses to bring in new players during the transfer window to help boost the club’s challenge for the Premier League title.
The Reds manager has been hit by injuries to Philippe Coutinho and Danny Ings while forward Sadio Mane has left to play for Senegal at the Africa Cup of Nations.
So he has been told there is cash to spend to bring in a player or two in January should one become availabl.
Klopp is said to be interested in Dutch winger Quincy Promes who plies his trade in Russia but might be willing to wait till the summer to pull off a deal.
But while he is scouring the market to see if there are any deals to be done, Klopp is also setting in plans for the summer where he wants to continue overhauling his squad.
And Bayer Leverkusen winger Brandt is a player who is high on his list of targets at the end of the season.
Liverpool scouts have checked up on the form of the 20-year-old on several occasions this season with favourable reports being sent back to Klopp.
And the Liverpool Echo claim the Reds boss will make a £20million bid for Brandt in the summer in order to tempt Leverkusen into selling.
Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich are also tracking the winger but Klopp believes he can beat them to the signature of a player is is regarded as one of the best young talents in Germany.
Last year Brandt became the youngest player since Germany legend Gerd Muller to score in six successive Bundesliga matches.
