Arsenal have been advised to tilt thier wage structure in order to keep their best players to enable them challenge for honours this season and subsequent years.

Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil are the Gunners highest paid players prestissimo and the duo are on £130,000 and £140,000 weekly wages respectively though with 18 months left on their current contract.

However, Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler believes Arsène Wenger must pay more to keep those two or risk not winning the Premier League title any time soon.

“Their two biggest stars have less than 18 months left on their deals and both will want to smash the wage structure at the Emirates,” Fowler wrote in his column for the Mirror.

“With Arsenal’s current policies, both players will be leaving by the summer.

“Inevitably, over the past decade, that has meant stars will leave – and it has also created situations that have prevented Wenger’s teams from challenging for the title.

“If contract negotiations drag out with them, they will not win the title again this season either.

“So, the board must decide what they want to be – a team which wins honours, or one which has an admirable, but, ultimately, limiting wages policy.”

Sanchez has 11 goals in 15 Premier League outings so far this term while Ozil has scored five times in the same number of games to help Arsenal to second spot on the log.
