Though he has undergone a successful surgery but Ivorian striker Gervinho now faces a lengthy injury lay-off which has automatically ruled the 29-year-old Ivory Coast international out of next year’s African Nations Cup.
Gervinho made 31 appearances in the Premier League for Arsenal scoring nine goals in two seasons at the Emirates Stadium after signing for the Gunners from Ligue 1 club Lille in 2011 for a reported fee of £10.8m.
He then left England for Italy by signing for Roma, scoring 17 Serie A goals for the Italian capital club in 71 appearances. He signed for Chinese Super League side Hebei China Fortune in January this year.
Gervinho was hurt during training with Hebei Fortune last month but only underwent surgery in Paris last week.
“The operation was successful but his recovery will be between four to six months which means he is out of the Nations Cup,” an Ivorian Football federation statement said on Monday.
