Real Madrid are said to have delayed the negotiation of Cristiano Ronaldo’s new contract after it has been reported that the star is looking for a five-year extension at the club.

According to the Mirror, the 31-year-old has had the initial details and outlines agreed upon for his new deal with the club, however the Portuguese international is unhappy with the length, and wishes to extend it to assure his commitment to the club he joined in 2009.

The former Manchester United forward should receive an £18.5m salary after tax with further add-ons to be included, however his indication in recent weeks that he wishes to retire at the Bernabeu has resulted in the player wanting to stay at the club until 2021.
