Arsenal assist king has revealed his favourite teammate, the player the 27-year-old Turkey-born German midfielder claims to look up to.

Mesut Ozil has been at Arsenal for three years now and after playing alongside compatriot Per Mertesacker at Bundesliga club Werder Bremen, the former Real Madrid man has admired the gangling defender as his role model at the club.

“I’ve known Per for a while, because we’ve played together in Bremen, for the national team and here too,” Ozil told Arsenal Player.

“I can only say positives about him. He gives everything for the team, not just for himself, but for everyone.

“Off the pitch, he watches the games and comes into the dressing room. He’s just a role model and we’re pleased to have him here. I want him to get fit again and back on the pitch as quickly as possible.

“I sincerely hope that he comes back really quickly.”

Ozil, who has featured nine times for Arsenal this season scoring two goals, can be pardoned for being biased but he won the World Cup together with Mertesacker for Germany two years ago in Brazil.
