Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola will renew the biggest management rivalry in modern football when they meet in the Premier League this weekend.
Once colleagues and kindred spirits at Barcelona, that seems a long time ago now as they prepare their Manchester United and Manchester City sides for a crucial fixture that could have a big bearing on the destination of the league title.
Here is a look back at five of their most memorable former meetings…
April 2010 – The winner takes it all
Having won 3-1 at the San Siro in the Champions League semi-final first leg Mourinho took his Inter Milan side to holders Barcelona knowing what they had to do to make it to the final. And although they lost 1-0 they put on a defensive masterclass, progressing with only 24% possession.
At full time Mourinho famously ran around the Nou Camp pitch with his hands aloft before saying: “My side are a team of heroes – the players left their blood on the pitch tonight.”
