Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe has given a rather awkward assessment of Arsenal’s 24-year-old loanee progress under his watch at the Vitality Stadium.

Howe has revealed that he is trying to balance Jack Wilshere’s fitness by limiting his training time to prevent him from ‘breaking down’.

That phrase cracked me up and I wasn’t too surprised considering the England midfieder’s debilitating injury record which limited him to just 159 games for Arsenal in nine years at the Emirates Stadium before agreeing on rehabilitation – in form of a season-long temporary move to Bournemouth.

“He has not completed all of the training,” Howe told BBC Radio Solent.

“We have had to manage his training time on the pitch to make sure we get the balance right between getting him fitter and making sure he does not break down.

“There are certain players who have had serious injuries in their careers that we have to manage. We have to fine-tune the workload that they get.”

Wilshere is expected to make his debut for the Cherries this weekend against West Brom in the Premier League after completing 45 minutes in a friendly against AC Milan last week.
