Sometimes the arrival of a new manager with novel ideas, tactics and philosophy could stir changes in an establishment and Pep Guardiola wants a change in the goalkeeping department at City.
With the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss keen on a football-playing shotstopper, a quality 29-year-old Hart lacks, that has led to a £17m bid for Barcelona’s Chilean goalie Claudio Bravo.
Guardiola has preferred Willy Caballero in goal for City’s season opening two games
Reports claim City and Barca have reached an agreement in principle for 33-year-old Bravo who kept 16 clean sheets in 32 appearances for the reigning La Liga champions last season.
Bravo’s imminent arrival at the Etihad means Hart, England’s No 1 goalkeeper with 63 caps, will be playing second fiddle for the first time in five consecutive seasons at the club.
But it seems Hart wouldn’t want to be a bench warmer at City with three years left on his current contract as he is ready to go on loan with either Sevilla or Everton.
The Toffees are believed to be the front runners at the moment to land Hart.
