Some sportsmen earn legendary status even before retirement, such is the amazing story of football’s contemporaneous best Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
The pair have shared world football’s biggest prize – the FIFA Ballon d’Or between them since 2007 and somehow, a French footballer has been likened to the enigmatic duo ahead of Sunday’s Euro 2016 final between Portugal and host country France.
Manchester City right-back Bacary Sagna, who will face the daunting task of keeping a close eye on Portugal and Real Madrid ace Ronaldo in tomorrow night’s final showdown has compared his national team-mate Antoine Griezmann to the world’s best two forwards.
Sagna claims Griezmann, who currently tops Euro 2016 scorers chat with six goals from six matches, is probably the best in the world and belongs in the same league with Ronaldo and Messi.
“Ronaldo, we know him. He’s one of the best players in the world – if not the best – and he has worked very hard to get there,’ Sagna told a news conference on Saturday.
“Antoine, to me, is right up there too, in the same league as Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.”
