Two of the most powerful English teams are set to embark on a financial power tussle this summer over in-form Bundesliga star.

Manchester United are planning a summer overhaul of their entire recruitment structure and a report in the Daily Mail claims Louis van Gaal’s side have moved a step closer to signing Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Aubameyang, who is chasing Robert Lewandowski to be top scorer in the German top flight this season with 22 league goals to his name, is valued by Dortmund at £70m which United are ready to pay but they face a stern challenge from arch rivals Arsenal.

The France-born Gabon international, is under contract to Dortmund until 2020 and it is understood he is keen on a potential move to Old Trafford with a bid expected at the end of the season.
