Morgan Schneiderlin was rested for Manchester United’s FA Cup win at home to Sheffield United on Saturday evening alongside veterans Michael Carrick and Ashley Young.
However after the match, United manager Louis van Gaal confirmed that the French midfielder was rested because he was in the ‘red zone’ but could feature against Newcastle United on Tuesday night.
Also, Van Gaal reserved some words of praise for 20-year-old Brazilian midfielder Andreas Pereira who came off the bench to impress against the Blades.
“Schneiderlin is not injured but he’s in the red zone and had an overload. In the Christmas period, he played every game and we have to take care of that,” Van Gaal said.
“I don’t take risks and, because of that, we have a very young bench. I trust these players also because Pereira is coming in and was a very good substitute, I think.
“With our injuries and players in the red zone, we have to take care of it. I think we have done it well.”
