Manchester United are reportedly locked in discussions with Portuguese champions Benfica as they attempt to complete the signing of highly-rated goal machine Renato Sanches according to the Independent.
United boss Louis van Gaal is believed to have been convinced by scout reports on the 18-year-old Lisbon-born striker whose buyout clause is estimated to be £58.8m.
The 20-time Premier League champions have been scouting the player for some months and are ready to make a move with Van Gaal on the lookout for attacking reinforcements as backup to Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial.
It however remains to be seen whether the Red Devils will move in January or wait until the summer.
United spent big to bring talented young French forwards Martial and Dutch Memphis Depay to Old Trafford last summer.
