Brazil manager Dunga is hoping Neymar will be announced winner of this year’s Ballon d’Or when it is announced in Zurich on January 11, 2016 after confirming he voted for the 23-year-old Barcelona forward.
Real Madrid ace Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar’s Barca team-mate Lionel Messi have exclusively monopolised the prestigious FIFA world player of the year award on a regular basis since Kaka last won it in 2007 while at AC Milan but Dunga is confident it’s time for another Brazilian’s name to appaear on the global prize.
And that name should be ‘flying’ Neymar who has scored 16 goals in 18 matches for club and country this season.
“I voted for Neymar,” Dunga told Brazilian newspaper Globo Esporte.
“Cristiano Ronaldo last year was fantastic, he had a fabulous season, because Real Madrid were in great form.
“It’s not that he is not playing well now, but he’s not on the same level as last year.
“Messi was doing well, but he got injured. Neymar is flying at the moment, taking on a leadership role in the team. I believe his time has come.”
