Jesse Lingard inspired Manchester United to a 2-0 win over West Bromwich Albion at Old Trafford on Saturday with a man of the match performance.
The 22-year-old England winger opened scoring for United with a stunning goal in the 52nd minute in a tough game for Louis van Gaal’s side and has featured in the last seven matches for the Red Devils.
However, Van Gaal knows that sooner or later the England national team will come calling for Lingard’s services but the Dutchman has warned Three Lions coach Roy Hodgson that it is ‘too early’, while making reference to Memphis Depay’s poor form as a result of exhaustion.
“I would say it is much too early,” Van Gaal said.
“We have to wait to see if he is consistent because he is more or less the same age as Memphis Depay.
“We have to wait but I am very happy with his contribution up until now.”
