Captain Wayne Rooney has been confirmed fit by manager Louis van Gaal for Manchester United’s Barclays Premier League clash with Everton on Saturday at Goodison Park while Ashley Young has been ruled out with a calf injury.

Rooney, who hasn’t scored an away goal in the league for almost a year, had missed England’s Euro 2016 qualifiers against Estonia and Lithuania with an ankle injury.

“Ashley Young is also injured because that was the last match against Arsenal. Young can’t play but Wayne Rooney can,” Van Gaal said at Friday’s pre-match press conference.

Meanwhile, Van Gaal has promised to assess Dutch internationals Daley Blind and Memphis Depay before deciding if they are in the right frame of mind to play after returning from Holland’s disastrous defeat to the Czech Republic that cost them a place at Euro 2016.

Elsewhere, Northern Ireland defender Paddy McNair will be sidelined for a month after damaging his liver and ribs in his country’s draw in Finland.
