Arsenal leapfrogged Manchester United to move into second place two points behind leaders Manchester City in the Barclays Premier League table after thrashing the Red Devils 3-0 at the Emirates Stadium before the international break.
However, with Chelsea rooted to 16th after four losses with their latest a 3-1 home defeat to Southampton, Gunners boss Arsene Wenger believes any club in the top eight can lift the league title this season and feels Jose Mourinho’s side can prove the gene of champions and bounce back.
“You can compete for the championship if you turn up and fight for every game. We need to show the same quality,” Wenger said horning his side’s chances.
“The top eight can compete. At the moment the top eight can mathematically compete. I would say five or six teams.
“They [Chelsea] have some ground to make up. It is different to anybody out there at the moment, even Chelsea. Of course when you have many teams in front of you it is difficult to catch up but they have the quality.
“My worry is about my team and what we can do. We are two points behind the league leaders and what all the other teams do is up to them but I just want to say mathematically you cannot rule anybody out at the moment.”
