French teenage striker Anthony Martial announced his arrival to the English Premier League on Saturday by netting Manchester United’s third goal in their 3-1 demolition of Liverpool at Old Trafford.
Several congratulatory reactions have been trailing Martial’s audacious approach to football.
And the latest on the list of his well-wishers is none other than United’s veteran midfielder and vice-captain Michael Carrick, who feels the 19-year-old is already ‘off the mark’ by coming off the bench to score that wonder goal against the Reds.
“It doesn’t get any better than that does it? Coming in and coming on, scoring against Liverpool like that,” Carrick said.
“He has done well to get in that position and I thought the finish was terrific, how he just slotted it home, he was so calm and composed. You can’t ask for a better start.
“He is off the mark now. He has announced himself and everyone has seen it on the big stage. It’s a good start for him. I am sure his confidence will be sky high after that.
“It’s a good way to settle him and if that has raised expectations then so be it, but that is part of the game.”
