Manchester United summer transfer target Nicolas Otamendi is threatening to boycott training at his club Valencia.
The 27-year-old centre-back is trying to force his move to Old Trafford where he can forge defensive partnership with international team-mate Marcos Rojo by declining to turn up for training at the Mestalla and he is reportedly going AWOL.
Rojo also did the same as he protested his £15m move to United last summer by refusing to train at Sporting Lisbon until his transfer was resolved.
Otamendi is due back to club pre-season preparations on July 27 after starring for Argentina at this year’s Copa America in Chile.
United considered signing him last year when he was leaving Porto but allowed the deal to slip away amid concerns over third party ownership.
The combative defender, whose buyout clause has been pegged at £35.65m, was outstanding in Valencia’s push for Champions League qualification last season and the La Liga club are averse to letting him go.
