Manchester United boss, Louis van Gaal has called on the Premier League to introduce a winter break today, in reaction to the Premier League clubs’ horrible failure in Europe this season.

The Dutchman insists that the time has come for the Premier League to follow the lead of the Bundesliga, La Liga and others, by taking a 2 week break at Christmas, rather than playing 4 or 5 games as they do now.

Van Gaal believes that the German, French and Spanish sides’ success in Europe this season over their English counterparts can be put down to how much fresher they were, thanks to their winter break.

The winter break is a very convenient argument when English clubs fail in Europe; we didn’t hear much about it when they were reaching consecutive semi-finals and finals between 2005-10, did we?
