Charlie Austin scored five goals for Queens Park Rangers in December to take his tally for the season to 13 and his inspirational form for Harry Redknapp’s struggling side has earned him the Premier League player of the month award.
The 25-year-old England striker scored against former sides Burnley and Arsenal, as well as a match-winning hat-trick against relegation rivals West Brom at Loftus Road.
Aside scoring goals for the R’s, Austin created one assist, and made 71 successful passes in his side’s six fixtures.
Elsewhere, Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini picked up the December manager of the month gong after the Chilean guided the Blues to five wins and a 2-2 home draw against Burnley.
City were unbeaten in the league last month and claimed 16 points from a possible 18.
It was a run of form that helped the defending champions claw back eight-point deficit on league-leaders Chelsea to end 2014 within touching distance of the table’s summit.
