Manchester United have confirmed teenage left-back Luke Shaw will be out of action for about four to six weeks with an ankle injury, fresh scans have revealed.
Shaw picked up the freak injury in his left ankle in the first-half of United’s 2-1 win at Arsenal in the Barclays Premier League last Saturday.
The England defender now stands to miss up to eight league matches and an FA Cup third round tie.
United have been heavily struck with injuries to key players this season as they continue to find their rhythm under Louis van Gaal, Shaw has now added to the Dutchman’s injury-hit defence.
It was initially predicted the former Southampton wideman will be sidelined for just three weeks, but scans that had been delayed to allow the swelling injured ankle to go down yesterday revealed that it could be up to twice as long.
