Dutch winger Arjen Robben is adamant “Argentina will not stand a chance” against Germany in the World Cup final at the Maracana on Sunday, and he is certain joachim Loew’s side will lift the trophy.
“Germany’s going to win the World Cup. No doubt about that. The Argentines will not stand a chance,” Robben said.
The Netherlands were knocked out 4-2 on penalties in the semi-finals by a feeble Argentine side on Wednesday night in Sao Paulo, after a goalless 120 minutes.
Alejandro Sabella’s side now face Germany in the final on Sunday while Louis van Gaal’s Dutch team meet Brazil in the third-place play-off on Saturday.
Reflecting on the loss to Argentina, Robben was quite diplomatic despite admitting it was a painful loss.
“Penalties are not only a game of pure chance – we’ve shown that against Costa Rica. We did a very good job there, and were really successful,” Robben continued.
“It didn’t work out today during the penalties. We also had some bad luck but, sadly, that’s part of football.”
