“We are preparing for the first match against Nigeria. Our only concern is Nigeria at the moment.”
Words of Iran assistant coach Oceano Cruz, who admits their “only concern” in group F this summer in Brazil is their opening game against the Super Eagles on Monday.
The 51-year-old Carlos Quiroz assistant said his team is keenly anticipating the match against Nigeria, after defeating Trinidad and Tobago 2-0 in a warm-up tie last Friday.
Before Iran’s victory over T&T the Asian nation had not won in four matches.
Cruz added that they are happy to be part of this year’s tournament, and the fact that they signed off to Brazil with a win, but also made it crystal-clear that they were focused on their clash with the African champions.
“It was a game that has fulfilled our
expectations,” Cruz told Globoesporte.
“Victory is always important to create a culture of winning. This only happens with results like this.”
