Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa suffered a gashing and highly frightful leg injury in his side’s 2-0 win at Getafe on Sunday in the La Liga.
The injury marred a hard-fought win for Atlético as they restored their three-point lead at the top of the table with victory over 10-man Getafe.
The 25-year-old Brazil-born Spain nationalised forward now faces a race against time to be fit for Atletico’s Champions League semi-final with Chelsea on April 22 at the Vicente Calderon following the horrendous leg-breaking incident.
The Spanish striker was stretchered off late on after colliding with a post while scoring the visitors’ second to wrap up victory against the Primera division strugglers.
Diego Godin opened the scoring five minutes before the break when he headed home from inside the box after
good work by Juanfran.
The visitors were handed another boost midway through the second half when Ángel Lafita saw red for a second booking following a foul on Miranda in the penalty area.
However, they failed to take advantage as Costa saw his spot-kick saved.
Costa made amends for his miss late on when he wrapped up victory, only to be stretchered off after colliding with the frame of the goal.
