Zenit St Petersburg have confirmed the appointment of former Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas as their new head coach, he will be officially unveiled on March 20, after agreeing a two-year contract.

The Russian club employed 36-year-old Villas-Boas, who was sacked at English side Tottenham Hotspur in December to replace recently fired 55-year-old Italian manager, Luciano Spalletti.

Spalletti was sacked after the club lost their Champions League last-16 first leg tie 4-2 at home to Borussia Dortmund and dropped to second in
their domestic league, first-team coach Sergey Semak was appointed as acting coach until Portuguese tactician, Villas-Boas assumes the mantle of dictatorship.

A statement on the club’s official website read: “Zenit has agreed terms on a contract with new head coach Andre Villas-Boas.

“Mr. Villas-Boas will be presented in St Petersburg as Zenit’s new head coach on 20 March.”
