Inter Milan supremo Massimo Moratti, has confirmed that the club’s sale to Indonesian Erick Thohir, may be completed within one week.
Thohir is a part owner of Major League Soccer club DC United and NBA team the Philadelphia 76ers and Moratti hopes he will help the Serie A side reduce their debts of about £250m.
“I hope to see an even stronger Inter,” Moratti said. “We could be close to
signing contracts but, until it happens, I can’t make any announcement.
Maybe the signatures will arrive within the week.” According to reports, Thohir is looking to buy a 75% stake in Inter for 350m euros (£292m).
However, he will need approval from the Nerazzuri’s shareholders for the deal to scale through. Moratti also said his family will still have a say in club matters, with a seat on the board.
Moratti became Inter’s president in 1995 and has overseen a period when they won five Serie A titles, Champions League and UEFA Cup.
