German daily bild has learned that Athletico Madrid have joined the race to sign Bayern Munich Striker Mario Gomez.
The german came on mostly as a substitute the whole of last season as Madzukic was preferred in the starting line up by former Bayern Munich coach Jupp Heynckes
The Germany international has made it known that he wants first team football and is ready to ply his trade elsewhere to get it. Fiorentina and Napoli were believed to be leading the race for the striker but seems Athletico Madrid are ready to sign Gomez to replace Falcao who joined Monaco earlier this month.
Gomez, 27, has bagged 75goals in 115 Bundesliga matches. He is valued at €35million by Bayern, but the price remains the stumbling block preventing the striker’s departure from the Alienz Arena.
